Autumn Prix of Brno and the end of the first joint WWRT season

19/10/2023

The last road racing event of the year at the turn of September and October took place traditionally at the Masaryk Circuit in Brno.

The starting list was overcrowded beyond expectations, so it was clear that we were in for a battle for the qualifications for the races themselves and it would not be easy to place, because names like Marek Červený are appearing in the Supertwin class this year and Petr Najman, for example, also showed great form this year. The end of the road racing season was not missed by competitors from neighboring countries such as Slovakia or Poland, and the starting grids were really bursting at the seams.

Both of our competitors in WWRT colors started in the Supertwin class and Kristýna Jakesch in her home class of 400SSP. They commented on the past racing weekend as follows:

Veronika Hankocyová #53

"I decided to ride only in the Supertwin class this year's autumn prize, because my second Yamaha R6 racing motorcycle was lent by the DFRA agency for the last dafit event, where it was damaged in a fall. The Aprilia RS 660 motorcycle of the Buldok team under the baton of Matys tunning was again prepared for the Supertwins. I missed Friday's free practice sessions because I was not in the best health condition. I developed an ear infection, which I had been fighting with all weekend, so I wanted to save myself as much as possible. In the end, I saved myself too much, because it rained on Saturday morning and therefore I missed one of the two practices. In the second one, we kept the settings from the Manx Grand Prix, but the gearing was a little heavier and the rear tire was slipping. Even so, it was enough for sixteenth place in a completely occupied starting grid.

I did very well in the Saturday race to start, but then I made a mistake in the second corner, overbraked and crashed. We repaired the bike for Sunday's race, but I re-injured my right shoulder, so I decided to start from the pit lane. I gradually worked my way through the other riders before the race was ended with a red flag due to another rider falling. I tried at least a different setup and a different type of tire and now I will focus on next season to be ready not only for the Brno Spring Prix, but mainly for the Isle of Man, where I will try to start the legendary Tourist Trophy."

Kristýna Jakesch #48

"Both of my classes had a full starting list, over 60 riders, which promised interesting races, but also great competition. Unfortunately, the weather was a bit bad for us, so the morning qualifications were quite limited, only a few riders went out on the water and it was clear that we had to give everything in the second qualification. Despite strong competition, I managed to finish 10th in the SSP400 class. However, our class was joined by more than 40 Supersport 300 riders, which meant 12th row on the grid for me in the final. It was clear that the first lap would decide everything, the race was a Sprint type. There was a racing incident in the second corner of the first lap and a 300 class rider "straightened" me and took me off the track. Fortunately, I managed to survive, but it cost me a few positions, which I then fought back with great difficulty. It ended up being 11th place in the 400 class and confirming my personal record.

I haven't trained much in the Supertwin class this year, I was struggling with technical problems, but everything indicated that the bike would be fine in Brno. Just like in the SSP400, the starting line was full. In qualifying I confirmed my time from the spring on the Aprilia RS 660 and hoped to improve in the race. The race started dramatically, on the first lap several riders crashed, which I managed to avoid. However, the remaining laps went well, despite a few mistakes I finished in 26th place.

Sunday was much more demanding. The first long Supertwin race started with a relatively good start, but very soon I realized that I had chosen the wrong gear and tire compound. I didn't feel good on the bike at all, my rear tire blew out several times, my quals didn't work out, I couldn't go fast and every lap was a pain for me. I decided to finish the race and not risk a crash, but at the same time the red flag came out and the race was canceled.

I wanted to get my appetite in the SSP400 class. I had a good start, even though it was really difficult to find a place in the first corner among the 62 riders. The race was quite difficult for me, constant contacts with groups of SSP300 riders decided several duels in our class. I am not satisfied with my performance, I did not manage to get even my standard time, but I console myself with the fact that after 6 days on the circuit some fatigue must be noticeable... Although Sunday did not go as expected, overall the race weekend was successful, we enjoyed it in the team, found out a lot of new knowledge and we have something to work with for next year."

It might seem that when the racing season is over, there is peace. However, after the first season of the WWRT team, it is time to evaluate the entire year, set changes and new goals, including choosing the appropriate preparation for the next season.
